SCOTT G. BRUCE is Professor of History at Fordham University. A specialist on the history of early medieval monasticism, his research interests include hagiography and the reception of the classical tradition. He has written and edited four books about the abbey of Cluny, most recently A Companion to the Abbey of Cluny in the Middle Ages, ed. Scott G. Bruce and Steven Vanderputten (Brill, 2021). He has also edited four historical anthologies for Penguin Classics, including The Penguin Book of Demons (Penguin Books, 2024). He is the author of over thirty peer-reviewed articles and over 200 book reviews. He has held visiting research appointments at the Technische Universität Dresden in Germany (2003); at the Universitiet Gent in Belgium (2009); as the Derek Brewer Visiting Fellow at Emmanuel College at the University of Cambridge, UK (2015); as Bristol Visiting Professor at the University of Bristol, UK, as part of the Bristol Next Generation Visiting Researcher Program (2023); and as Professeur invité at the École des hautes études en sciences socials in Paris, France, as part of the three-year research initiative Arts et Sciences du Silence (2022-2024).
